Victorian theatrical, material and low low low culture from the long nineteenth century. I cannot be responsible for such Edwardian ephemera as may occur. MANY pretty actresses.

Esme Beringer, c. 1900.

Helena Modjeska as Ophelia in 1867.
Modjeska (originally Modrzejewska) emmigrated from Poland to America, and despite her poor knowledge of the English language, she went on to become on of America’s most beloved actress, and one of the world’s premiere Shakespearian performers.
Oh dear; sometimes I have insightful things to say. Sometimes I just get very giggly. Look at her. LOOK.

Lillie Langtry
Specifically, Langtry as Rosalind from As You Like It, in 1882.

Actress and socialite Lillie Langtry photographed by William Downey (1829-1915).
Date- August 1885
Without finding anything else out, I’m guessing this is Langtry-in-America. My research focuses on her up to 1882 and then again from about 1889; this isn’t an image I’ve seen before and I’m always excited/glad about joining up the dots.
Assuming it is Langtry, of course (there’s no source. But the nose is right - the hair seems a little light, though).
